First Lady Michelle Obama Visits Miami-Dade Parks and Learns How SNAG Golf Helps Kids In Healthy After School Programs

MIAMI, February 26, 2014

First Lady Michelle Obama visited Gwen Cherry Park in Miami-Dade County on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 to celebrate the fourth year of her Let’s Move! campaign to raise healthier kids. Mrs. Obama congratulated Miami-Dade Parks for adopting a healthy after school program to promote fitness and healthy eating choices, which includes SNAG Golf curriculum that teaches kids life-long golf skills.

Mrs. Obama was joined by Amy Poehler, star of the NBC television series Parks and Recreation, when the two played SNAG Golf with kids in the Fit2Play after school program at Gwen Cherry Park. Miami-Dade Parks Assistant Golf Professional, Seth Pearman, discussed with Mrs. Obama how SNAG Golf is an important component of Fit2Play curriculum and the new Jack Nicklaus Learning Leagues, which brings golf to parks and recreation centers throughout Miami-Dade County.

Miami-Dade Parks rolled out a Jack Nicklaus Learning Leagues program in 2013 which increases access to the game of golf for youth and active adults. Jack Nicklaus Learning Leagues, in partnership with SNAG and the National Recreation and Parks Association, is a national grassroots initiative to bring entry-level golf to millions of children and adults.
